Our Thesis

The hardest part was never writing code.

In the age of AI, a capable tech product can be built faster and cheaper than ever before. That's incredible — and it changes nothing about the fundamental challenge of building a business. The market still has to care. Customers still have to pay. Revenue still has to exceed costs.

PenloParc was founded on the belief that the gap between a clever idea and a viable company is not a technology problem — it's a market problem. We exist to help founders close that gap.

"AI has lowered the cost of building a product to near zero. The cost of building the wrong thing remains catastrophically high."

The single most common failure mode for early-stage tech startups isn't bad engineering — it's solving a problem that the market doesn't actually value enough to pay for. We help you find the problem worth solving before the burn rate finds you.

About Us

Two operators who care deeply about helping entrepreneurs build well.

Founded in 2025, PenloParc is a boutique strategy consultancy serving pre-seed and seed-stage technology startups, co-founded by Alexandra Candelas and Justin Nelson. Headquartered across Denver, Boston, and Tampa and serving founders across North America and Europe, PenloParc brings together deep product judgment, founder experience, and a genuine passion for helping entrepreneurs find traction. Alex and Justin have built, led, taught, mentored, and advised at the highest levels — and they care deeply about making that support more accessible to ambitious founders, having advised over a dozen startups from zero funding to pre-seed stage.

Alexandra Candelas

Co-Founder · Entrepreneur · Product Executive · Educator

Alex is an entrepreneur and product executive, an early pioneer of the user experience practice, and a trusted educator, mentor, and coach. She helps organizations and C-suite leaders navigate the complexities of customer value through product design, bringing a rare blend of strategic clarity and practical execution.

She holds more than a dozen patents and trade secrets in technology inventions, and serves as an Adjunct Professor at Northeastern University's College of Professional Studies, where she is a frequent public speaker and advocate for helping designers grow into leadership roles.

Strengths: product design leadership, customer value strategy, mentoring, and translating innovation into durable market advantage.

Justin Nelson

Co-Founder · Entrepreneur · Product Executive · Operator

Justin is a successful entrepreneur, industry disruptor, and accomplished product management executive. As co-founder of Strongroom Solutions, he led the creation of a pioneering AP automation and B2B payment solution that helped redefine the Community Association industry and establish the company as the market leader.

After Strongroom’s acquisition by fintech unicorn AvidXchange, Justin continued as Vice President of Product through the company’s IPO, leading the creation of its integration platform and partner integrations. Connect with Justin on LinkedIn.

Strengths: founder execution, product strategy, building category-defining solutions, and guiding entrepreneurs through growth with hard-won operator perspective.

Core Beliefs

Five principles that
guide everything we do

Boldness

Starting a company is an act of courage. We celebrate entrepreneurs who embrace risk and pioneer new frontiers, and we match their energy with ours.

Resilience

For some founders, the path is longer and more obstacle-ridden. We believe those challenges are forges, not barriers — and we help build resilience into your strategy.

Trust

Venturing into uncharted waters demands trust — in your co-founders, your advisors, and your own judgment. We help founding teams build it intentionally.

Curiosity

The best innovators are driven by curiosity — the ability to question differently before they build differently. We encourage that instinct at every stage.

Catalyst

Entrepreneurs are catalysts for meaningful change. We believe that a path to generational wealth through entrepreneurship should be visible and available to all founders.

How We're Different

We don't give you a playbook.
We help you write yours.

The PenloParc Model
Untapped potential exists everywhere — not just in Silicon Valley

We recognize that the most interesting founders and most valuable ideas aren't concentrated in a two-mile radius in the Bay Area. PenloParc was built to serve ambitious entrepreneurs wherever they are, with the same quality of strategic guidance previously reserved for well-connected insiders.

Give Back Program
Inspired by Toms. Powered by engagements with you.

For every commercial engagement we take on, we invest time mentoring and advising socio-economically disadvantaged youth and underrepresented founders — helping them bring their business ideas to life. Working with PenloParc is how you help make the next generation of founders possible.

Our Approach
Market-first, always

We begin every engagement by deeply understanding the market — before touching product, pitch, or pricing. The right strategy follows from the right market insight.

Engagement Model
Built for founder constraints

No endless retainers. Our engagements are scoped, time-bounded, and designed to produce durable strategic clarity — so you can execute independently afterward.

Where We Operate
Serving North America & Europe from Denver, Boston, and Tampa

PenloParc works with founders across the United States, Canada, and Europe. Our team operates out of three hubs — Denver, CO; Boston, MA; and Tampa, FL — and works remotely with founders wherever they are building. Whether you're in the U.S. Southeast, New England, the Mountain West, or across the Atlantic, geography is not a barrier to working together.

FAQ

Common questions about
working with PenloParc

PenloParc offers scoped, time-bounded engagements rather than open-ended retainers. Pricing is structured around the specific engagement type and scope — so you know exactly what you're getting before we start. Reach out via our contact page for a conversation about your specific needs and we'll put together a proposal.

Most PenloParc engagements run between 4 and 12 weeks depending on scope. Problem-Market Fit discovery sprints can be as short as 4 weeks. More comprehensive go-to-market strategy and investor readiness engagements typically run 8–12 weeks. We design every engagement to have a clear end point and deliverable — so you can execute independently afterward.

Problem-market fit means finding a specific market segment where the problem you're solving is real, frequent, and painful enough that people will pay to address it. Unlike product-market fit (which comes later, after you've built something), problem-market fit is the first validation step — it's about confirming the market opportunity before you invest heavily in building a solution. The most common reason early-stage startups fail isn't bad technology — it's spending months or years building something the market doesn't actually value enough to pay for.

Incubators and accelerators take equity, run cohort-based programs on fixed curricula, and serve many companies simultaneously. PenloParc is a boutique consultancy: we work one-on-one with your specific founding team, we don't take equity, our engagements are scoped to your particular challenges, and we bring hands-on operator experience from actual company building — including a founder exit and a company IPO — not generic programming. The result is deeply personalized strategic guidance, not a workshop you share with 20 other startups.

Yes. PenloParc serves founders across North America and Europe. We operate out of Denver, Boston, and Tampa, and work remotely with founders wherever they are building. If you're outside the US, reach out — we're comfortable working across time zones and have experience with founders navigating non-US market dynamics.

PenloParc works best with pre-seed and early seed-stage tech founders — typically those who have an idea, early concept, or MVP and are trying to validate the market, define their go-to-market strategy, or prepare for their first fundraise. We've worked with founders ranging from no funding at all to those who have initial pre-seed capital and are ready to accelerate. If you're post-Series A, our work may be less relevant — but reach out and we'll be honest about fit.

No. PenloParc does not take equity. We operate as a fee-based consultancy, which means our incentives are fully aligned with delivering value in the engagement — not with what happens to your cap table afterward. We believe founders should be able to get high-quality strategic guidance without giving up ownership to get it.

For every commercial engagement PenloParc takes on, we commit meaningful advisory time to a socio-economically disadvantaged founder or youth entrepreneur — at no cost. This program is inspired by the Toms one-for-one model and reflects our belief that a path to generational wealth through entrepreneurship should be available to all founders, not just those with access to elite networks. If you believe you may qualify, reach out through our Partner With Us page.
